Saccharomyces cerevisiae:
Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is used widely in ruminant feed owing to its ability to scavenge oxygen in the rumen.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae will help to maintain the balance in the rumen microbial ecosystem for better fiber degradability and feed efficiency.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae helps in stabilizing the rumen pH and prevents decrease in the fiber degrading bacteria in the rumen which are acid sensitive.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae helps in improved microbial protein flow due to better ecological balance in the rumen.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae helps in maturity of calf digestive system by establishing cellulolytic bacteria and favouring rumen development.
Fibrolytic Enzymes:
Rumen is the main site of digestion of fiber and starch which mainly comprises of Lignocellulosic biomass. Plant cell walls are composed of cellulose (35-50%), hemi cellulose (20-35%) and lignin (10-15%)
Need for Exogenous Enzymes:
The ruminal microbes produce endogenous enzymes which help in breakdown of lignocellulosic biomass of plant cell walls which primarily are made of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin.
Cellulase, Xylanase and ß-glucanase when supplemented as exogenous enzymes in ruminant diets complement with endogenous enzymes and help in efficient fiber digestion and feed conversion efficiency.
