Fowl cholera is one of the harmful and highly contagious septicaemic disease of chicken, caused due to Pasteurella multocida. These organisms are very susceptible disinfectant. This disease causes high mortality and morbidity. Chickens are more susceptible to fowl cholera after withdrawal of feed and water or sudden change in diet.

Transmission includes ingestion, inhalation, conjunctiva, fomites, rodents and birds.

Signs involvedepression, loss of appetite,cyanosis of comb and wattles and fowl smelling diarrhoea. Post mortem finding involves congestion of carcass, pinpoint haemorrhages throughout the internal organs and multiple pinpoint necrotic foci in the liver. Liver become enlarged and may also show very small haemorrhages on the surface.

Sanitation and disinfection helps to prevent the fowl cholera.

Treatment of fowl cholera with antibiotics and supplementation of vital nutrients will reduce symptoms and mortality.
