Shrimp Hatchery Diseases

These days shrimp hatcheries have become a full time enterprise. Artificial breeding, spawning and hatching of millions and millions of shrimp seeds under very intensive and controlled system of rearing certainly invites all kinds of diseases. Most of the diseases can be controlled by maintaining hygiene in the hatchery and the surrounding places, use of quality sea water, avoiding over-crowding and adopting prophylactic measures.

The diseases in the hatchery are two types: infectious and noninfectious. The infectious diseases are caused by the viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoans and metazoans while the noninfectious diseases are caused by factors like physico-chemical conditions and nutritional factors.
