Acute Fascioliasis causes severe damage to liver tissue and haemorrhagic necrosis.
Chronic Fascioliasis leads to anaemia, emaciation, hypoproteinemia and constipation followed by diarrhoea.
Description:
DistoNex (Oxyclozanide) is an excellent oral fasciolicide and is one of the most effective fluke remedy for cattle, buffaloes, sheep and goats.
DistoNex is a specially developed formulation for the treatment and control of Fascioliasis and Amphistomiasis in cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats and other livestock.
DistoNex is effective both in mature and immature flukes.
DistoNex is also effective against Moniezia species in sheep.
Indications:
- For effective treatment of acute and chronic fascioliasis in cattle, buffaloes, sheep and goats.
- At the recommended dose removes practically all flukes from the bile ducts irrespective of their stage of maturity.
- Effective against amphistomiasis (Paramphistome) too.
- Removes tapeworm segments of Moniezia Spp.
Administration and Dosage
DistoNex is administered as an oral drench or bolus. The recommended
dosage is:
- Cattle -10 mg/kg body weight
- Sheep and Goats - 15 mg/kg body weight.
Safety:
- DistoNex has a wide safety margin and is safe upto 6 times of recommended dosage in cattle and buffaloes, and 4 times of the recommended dosage in sheep and goats.
- DistoNex is safe for pregnant, heavily lactating and undernourished animals.
- DistoNex can be safely given to young ones, weak, sick and debilitated animals.
- DistoNex given to ewes 6 weeks before lambing helps in producing healthy lambs.
- DistoNex does not taint milk or in anyway adversely affect its quality or suitability for human consumption.
- Distonex is safe for administration along with other drugs and vaccination programmes.
Side effects:
- At the recommended dose, there are practically no side effects except that some animals may show slight loss of appetite, which is transitory.
- In lactating animals slight milk drop for a 1 to 2 days may occur but animals start showing increased production within a few days.
- In cattle slight softening of faeces may occur sometimes with normal doses and occasionally the animal may show increased frequency of defecation.
Compatibility
DistoNex can be administered along with other treatment and vaccinations.

Note: Three times the therapeutic dose of DistoNex in sheep and goats is highly effective against immature flukes.
DistoNex Suspension can be given in the feed to cattle and buffaloes, which are fed individually. Molasses or salt may be added for shy feeders.

Dosage
Cattle
- 1 DistoNex 1.0 gm Fluke Bolus per 100 kg body weight.
- In immature amphistomiasis increase the dose to 15 mg per kg body weight.
Sheep
- The normal recommended dose 1 DistoNex 200 mg Fluke tablet per 13 kg body weight.
