Significance of Protein in poultry diet
Protein is an expensive and vital nutrient for poultry. Poultry does not digest and absorb all the protein and amino acids present in the diet. The undigested component is a substrate for microbial metabolism, favouring harmful organisms in the hindgut. Proteins that are not well digested are fermented in the hindgut by proteolytic bacteria, producing harmful metabolites and increasing the risk of diarrhoea and wet litter. Undigested protein also leads to lower performance and higher nitrogen levels in faeces, with a negative impact on the environment.
Multi-Proteases for Poultry

Action in Gut
Time available for the feed to be digested and absorbed in the digestive tract after entry into the mouth is approximately 4.25 hrs. In this short period complex protein in the feed is to be digested and absorbed. The digestive organs of poultry vary in their pH conditions ranging from acidic proventriculus (pH 3.0) to alkaline colon (pH 8.0). Although pepsin is secreted in the proventriculus, proteolytic enzymes spike in the regions of duodenum and jejunum, where absorption of nutrients commences. It is advantageous to initiate protein digestion in the anterior segments of the GI tract.
