Composition
Each ml contains:
Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride I.P. : 100 mg
Antibacterial Action
UltrOx-DS is bacteriostatic at therapeutic levels but in higher concentrations is bactericidal. The effect, as with all antibiotics, also depends on the sensitivity of the organisms. The mode of action is by interference with protein synthesis.
Antibacterial Spectrum and Indications
UltrOx-DS is a broad-spectrum antibiotic both in vitro and in vivo and is active against a large number of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
Species of Streptococci, Staphylococci (micrococci), Anthracoids, Pasteurella, Brucella, Corynebacterium, Erysipelothrix, Coliforms and Salmonellae are sensitive. Rickettsiae are also affected. Activity against other organisms, such as Pseudomonas, Proteus and Klebsiella species is low. It is also effective against some protozoa.
The diseases which have responded to UltrOx are very numerous. Some of the more important ones are:
- Mastitis due to E.coli, Streptococci and Staphylococci;
- Transit fever
- White scour in calves
- Enteritis in pigs
- Actinomycosis, Actinobacillosis, infectious keratitis in cattle
- Otitis and secondary invaders in the viral diseases of small animals.
Administration and Dosage:
UltrOx-DS injection may be administered at the rate of 5-10 mg per kg body weight in all animals by subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous injection. When higher dose rate is indicated, UltrOx-DS provides benefits of half the volume of injection, less irritation and side effects, convenience and economy.
